John Leonard's New Front Valance

John Leonard's New Front Valance for No. 002

A while ago in the article below, John had fitted the new Mulfab Aluminium Radiator to 'Merlin'.

Since then he has been planning to find a suitable Valance to cover the more visible lower edge as seen in the photo.

I elected to fit a Mulfab, aluminum radiator rather than the factory one, both for it’s better strength and it’s 40% greater cooling area, something I would have appreciated while driving around the foothills of the Pyrenees in temperatures of 80 degrees F!

I took the photo from ground level looking upwards, the radiator looks much more exposed than it really is from this angle.

John tells me that once he found that Wolf Performance Ltd were making full length Valances for Sports models, he contacted them.

However, Morgan Sports models do not carry Over Riders as the Roadster 100 does. Following discussions with Cain at their offices they agreed to make a Special for John that would fit between his Over Riders.

John attached a picture that Cain from Wolf sent to him of his finished valance, minus paint of course.

The Prototype Valence

In the Photo on the Wolf website, we can see the range of three that they now offer including the one developed with them by John.

Here is the valance fitted to the car.

No paint yet but when it is finished it will blend in well and allow the car to remain standard rather than look like a track car.

The Valance 'Test Fitted' to the Car

The cost for the valance was £229.00, if you have Cain fit it for you he charges £50.00.

Then there is the cost of painting it to consider.

Johns Comments are:

We are pleased with the way it looks, seems to finish the front of the car off and so much better than seeing the lower tank of the radiator hanging out.

I have only been out for a short drive since fitting it, too much salt on the roads, the engine temperature is the same as it was before fitting so air flow must be good.

Getting it painted cost £84.00 including VAT. I used a local BMW approved accident repair shop and they made a very good job of it and only took a couple of days.

The Finished Valance

As an aside while we are on the subject of Wolf, John also had fitted a set of their Stainless Steel Bezels across his Instrument Panel which enhance he appearance nicely.

These, and the Sealant used to attache them may also be seen in the Advert above.
