Renovating a Morgan Roadster 100 Hood
By David Owens
Cleaning, Re-colouring and Water Proofing an R100 Hood
Tools Required
Phillips Screwdriver
Masking Tape
Newspapers
Sheets
2 X 3” Paintbrushes
Sponge
2 Containers – Empty Ice Cream Tubs work fine.
Renovo – Cleaner, Colour Reviver, Ultra Proofer – 500ml each. I bought off Ebay for 38.95 GBP.

Step 1
Lightly rinse the hood, hood cover, sidescreens and sidescreen bag.
Apply Renovo Cleaner with a sponge rub in well and leave for 20minutes.
Rinse off all of the items and leave to dry.
Undo the three Phillips screws holding on the mohair panel on each sidescreen.
Step 2
Mask off the car windscreen, rear screen and sidescreens using the tape and newspapers.
Cover the rest of the car with old sheets. This is probably overkill.
Pour the Renovo Colour Reviver into a container and starting at the centre, using a 3” paint brush, apply the colour to the hood. One coat should be enough.
Do the same to the hood cover, sidescreen bag and sidescreen panels. The latter two will need to be done in two stages as they need colouring on both sides.
Step 4
After 24 hours repeat Step 3 with the Ultra Proofer.
Step 5
Once the hood is dry remove the sheets, newspapers and Masking tape.
Clean the aluminium frame of the sidescreens (Optional) before screwing the side panels back on.
All in all a simple but time consuming exercise but I am very happy with the results.
Notes – There was plenty of cleaning solution left for further cleaning at a later time. There was just enough colour reviver for the one application. There was a very small amount of Ultra Proofer left and if I was doing it again I would get one litre of the Ultra Proofer as what would be left would be enough to do the hood another two times at six month intervals.
The Products that David used.

Re-Colours and Re-Conditions Your Soft Top
This unique and innovative formula is simple to apply and gives unbelievable results - even when the fabric soft top is severely faded on your new or classic car.
We recommend using Renovo Fabric Soft Top Cleaner according to the ‘severely soiled’ instructions on the bottle to thoroughly clean your convertible top prior to applying Soft Top Reviver. It is important to ensure that the fabric is free of grease, dirt and any previous waterproof coatings before using Soft Top Reviver.
After reviving the colour, many of our customers extend the longevity of the makeover by applying our weatherproofing Ultra Proofer too.
Renovo Soft Top Reviver is available in Black, Dark Blue, Dark Green, Dark Red or Dark Brown and is quite literally a new soft top out of a bottle.
Although originally created for soft tops, the Soft Top Reviver is also ideal for boat covers, canvas, double duck, and mohair coverings as it re-colours and reconditions them all like new.
Please Note: Purely as a guide, the Dark Red is mixed to Pantone 202C, Dark Green is mixed to Pantone 5467C, Dark Blue is mixed to Pantone 282C and Brown is mixed to Pantone 4625C.
Fabric Soft Top Cleaner
For Regular Soft Top Cleaning
For regular cleaning of canvas, double duck and mohair convertible soft tops of all colours, freshening appearance and helping to preserve the soft top's overall condition. THE best convertible roof cleaner!
Fabric Soft Top Cleaner removes grime and ingrained dirt without impairing the appearance of the convertible car's fabric and is suitable for all colours.
How to Clean a Convertible Top
Please note: It is advisable to test on an inconspicuous area first, to ensure fabric is colourfast dyed. Never use pressure washers on soft tops.
Normal Cleaning
- Dry brush the soft top to remove any residual dirt.
- Dampen surface of Soft Top with a mist spray of water or a damp sponge.
- Shake bottle well prior to removing top.
- Pour into suitable container.
- Apply with a clean 5cm/2" paint brush using even brush strokes. Start at the centre of the cover working out towards the edge.
- Leave for 10-20 minutes to ensure the cleaner can work on difficult grime and stains.
- Commence scrubbing using warm water and a sponge, cloth or bristle brush until the cleaner begins to lather and dirt is being removed easily. Finish by rinsing off with water. Repeat the whole process if necessary.
For heavily-soiled surfaces leave the solution to dry for approximately 60 minutes - the optimum time for active ingredients to work. Heavily-soiled surfaces should be scrubbed with a bristle brush. Finish by rinsing off with water. Repeat the whole process if necessary.
Finally leave to dry before applying Renovo’s Ultra Proofer which will not only re-establish the original 'as new' waterproof weather barrier on your canvas, double-duck or mohair convertible top, also now contains UV protection and a mould/mildew growth inhibitor.
Bird Droppings / Difficult Stains
Dab or pour the Cleaner directly onto the spot of dirt or stain. (Massage into the affected area) Clean off after 30 mins. Repeat process if necessary.
Light Soiling / Quick Cleaning
For less soiled tops cleaning can commence immediately. Pour directly onto on to a cloth or sponge and massage into the affected area. Rinse off with water.
As with all cleaning products, it is best to avoid prolonged contact with skin. It is advised to use rubber gloves for protection.
We advise that to prolong the life of the re-colour provided by Reviver, you should allow 24 hours drying time and then protect it by applying Renovo Ultra Proofer.
Soft Top Reviver - Application Instructions
Please note: Do not dilute or mix Reviver with any other product! This would seriously impair the product performance and may damage your car.
- Ensure that the soft top is dry and free from grease, dirt and previous waterproof coatings by thoroughly cleaning with Renovo Fabric Soft Top Cleaner before commencing application.
- Unscrew the bottle top and pour Reviver into a suitable container/bowl.
- Stir well prior to application
- Apply Reviver with a new 5cm/2inch paintbrush using even strokes across the soft top. It is best to commence application in the centre of the soft top and as quickly as possible progress towards each side, the front and the back of the soft top. Wipe excess drips from paintwork, trims and glass with a damp cloth. Do not apply in direct sunlight, as this will cause the Reviver to dry out too quickly and produce an uneven result!
Depending on the condition of the top a litre of Reviver is usually sufficient for two coats on an average size soft top. It is important to allow Reviver to dry between coats. Always ensure that you have enough Reviver to coat the soft top completely and that you will not run out half way through application!
Renovo recommends applying at least two coats to achieve greater depth of colour on badly faded tops.
Reviver can also be applied in the same way as above to the fabric on the interior of the top. - Allow the top to dry for approximately three hours, this will depend on the drying conditions. The Reviver may dry out more quickly if it is a warm day and may take longer to dry if it is a damp day! Do not take the car out in rain/wet weather until the Reviver has completely dried.
- We advise that to prolong the life of the re-colour provided by Reviver, you should allow 24 hours drying time and then protect it by applying Renovo Ultra Proofer!
- Wash out brush in warm soapy water
